The Meat Soup Festival fills Hvolsvöllur with fragrant meat soup, live music and community cheer during the last week of August. Locals deck out their neighborhoods in every color of the rainbow, soup pots simmer on every corner, and families flock to the town-center green. Everyone is welcome.
The Meat Soup Festival in Hvolsvöllur turns 20 this year. For two decades the town has filled up with hot soup, colourful neighbourhoods and live music in the last week of August. The anniversary year is no exception, and everyone is welcome.

To kick off this meat soup festival in style, we are going to put on a "silent disco" at Midgard on Thursday, August 27th. The fun will take place between 17:00 and 18:00 (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM).
Meet at the N1 [gas station] in Hvolsvöllur (Hlíðarendi) at 18:00 to carpool. Drive the route to Hellisvellir.

Glowball soccer will be held in the sports hall, played in the dark with a glow-in-the-dark ball. NOTE: The 10th grade snack bar will be on site - FREE ENTRY.
Starts from the tent on the downtown lawn. The admission fee is one cold 750ml bottle of sparkling wine, alcoholic or non-alcoholic.
Residents and businesses join forces to serve up all kinds of soups
It is time for the second tournament out of six in the Suðurlandsskjálftinn, the FGÁ PDGA tournament series! During the series, all 18-hole courses in South Iceland will be played, and the 4 best tournaments out of 6 will count towards the overall competition.
The Eining Women's Association will be hosting a flea market, bazaar, and coffee sale in the main hall at Hvoll on Saturday, August 29th. Many desirable items for sale.
The festival officially opens, with entertainment and awards presented on the town-centre green.

Guðrún Árný leads the sing-along in the big tent on the downtown field. Special guest of honour: Hlynur Snær Theodórsson.
Ísólfur Gylfi Pálmason will lead a cultural walk around Hvolsvöllur. The town's history, fun facts, and stories about its people will be shared.
The Puppet Car is coming to entertain the youngest generation at the downtown park.

Everything practical for your visit — parking, accessibility and what's good to bring along.
Entry to the festival and the soup is free. Still, bring a little cash for the market stalls and charity stands.
Parking is available by Hvolsskóli and the sports centre. It's easy to walk or cycle around town — the festival area is all within walking distance.
August in Iceland is a lottery: bring rain gear, good shoes and a blanket for the evening programme. The soup takes care of the rest.

Toilets are open in the sports centre and by the main event areas while the programme is running.
